When I started my search for the best portable power station for blackouts, I spent weeks digging through brochures and YouTube videos. The options are dizzying, but my research kept pointing back to one brand: Jackery. Having sold over 5 million units since 2016, they’ve earned their reputation for reliability. After weighing the specs, I decided to invest in the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus review unit (paired with 200W SolarSaga panels) to see if it lived up to the hype. Spoilers: This Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus solar generator for home backup is an absolute beast.
Note: Since my purchase, Jackery has upped their game and have more robust home backup solutions available. They are a little pricey but the prices of the Explorer 2000 Plus has come down. I’m still content I can expand my unit 2kW at a time for a fair price.

Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus: Great Solar Generator for Home Backup Features
The 2000 Plus is a massive leap forward from the older “Pro” models because it uses LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate, LFP) chemistry. Unlike older Lithium batteries that might degrade after 500–800 cycles, this unit is built for the long haul.
- Massive Output: It delivers a 3000W continuous output (and a 6000W surge). This is enough to run heavy-duty items like air conditioners, large RV refrigerators, or even a specialized welder for a short time.
- 10-Year Lifespan: Because of the LFP battery, it is rated for 4,000 charge cycles before it drops to 70% capacity. If you used it every single day, it would still be a beast a decade from now.
- Expandable Battery: You can add up to 5 additional battery packs to a single unit, taking you from 2kWh up to 12kWh. You can even parallel two units for a staggering 24kWh of home backup and 240V capability.
- Silent Operation: It features a “Quiet Charging” mode that keeps the noise at just 30dB—roughly the same volume as a quiet library.
- Emergency Power Supply (EPS): It has a 20ms switchover time, so if the grid goes down, your fridge or CPAP machine won’t even flicker.
- Built-in wheels and telescopic handle: Though the unit is a beast at 60lbs, transporting it around your home is easy as moving luggage.
- Mobile Smart App: Control and monitor your 2000 Plus with the Jackery App. It supports different devices, real-time status monitoring, customization settings, and more.
Solar Capabilities: The 2000 Plus + 2x 200W Panels
When you combine the station with two of the SolarSaga 200W panels, you’re looking at a very capable off-grid “Solar Generator” setup.
- Charging Time: In ideal direct sunlight, this 400W solar array will fully recharge the 2000 Plus in approximately 7 to 7.5 hours.
- Bifacial Efficiency: The SolarSaga 200W panels are bifacial, meaning they can absorb reflected light from the ground on the back of the panel, potentially boosting your charging speed by up to 25% if placed on a reflective surface (like light-colored sand or a white RV roof).
- Durability: The panels are IP68 waterproof, so you don’t have to panic if a sudden storm rolls through your campsite.
- The “Pass-Through” Advantage: You can use the station to power your gear (like a laptop or a coffee maker) while the solar panels are charging it, which is perfect for working from the road.
Summary of Charging Options
| Power Source | Time to 100% |

| 6x 200W Panels | ~2 Hours (Max Speed) |
| 2x 200W Panels | ~7-7.5 Hours |

A Real-life Use Case
I mentioned before that the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus w/ 2x 200W SolarSaga panels has served my family and I well in the past. This past summer, we had a big thunderstorm in the area. The grid we live on is very prone to disruptions due to weather. The storm took out our grid for 5.5 hours.
Prior to owning a Jackery, we have had to manually open and close the garage and drive to the next town in order to get a hot meal. This time, we rolled the Jackery into the kitchen and were able to heat up some left over pizza, the ultimate survival comfort food! Our Jackery heated up 6 pieces in the convection oven perfectly and quietly. We set the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes and checked the status on the Jackery Mobile App. It costed us about 11% of the capacity. Pro-tip: We actually wrote down this down on a sticky note and stuck it to the unit. Now we know exactly how many ‘pizza runs’ we have in a total blackout!
Our Jackery was so versatile. Instead of manually opening and closing the garage, we were able to get an extension cable to the door opener. The Jackery powered it and kept us safe because we don’t have manual locks on the garage door. Today, it’s not quite a big deal since our new garage door opener has a built-in battery backup. However, if that battery were to run out, it’s Jackery to the rescue!
After inhaling the delicious pizza leftovers, we sat around the living room with the Jackery nearby. We were able to plug in an LED lamp, a small fan, and an old laptop that had a Blu-ray DVD player. Mini-movie night at Bronin’s! By the way, microwaved movie-theater buttered popcorn powered by our Jackery – Delish!
