Popcorn, and Peace of Mind: My Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus Review

When I started my search for the best portable power station for blackouts, I spent weeks digging through brochures and YouTube videos. The options are dizzying, but my research kept pointing back to one brand: Jackery. Having sold over 5 million units since 2016, they’ve earned their reputation for reliability. After weighing the specs, I decided to invest in the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus review unit (paired with 200W SolarSaga panels) to see if it lived up to the hype. Note: Since my purchase, Jackery has upped their game and have more robust home backup solutions available. They are a little pricey but the prices of the Explorer 2000 Plus has come down. I’m still content I can expand my unit 2kW at a time for a fair price.

A Real-life Use Case

I mentioned before that the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus w/ 2x 200W SolarSaga panels has served my family and I well in the past. This past summer, we had a big thunderstorm in the area. The grid we live on is very prone to disruptions due to weather. The storm took out our grid for 5.5 hours.

Prior to owning a Jackery, we have had to manually open and close the garage and drive to the next town in order to get a hot meal. This time, we rolled the Jackery into the kitchen and were able to heat up some left over pizza, the ultimate survival comfort food! Our Jackery heated up 6 pieces in the convection oven perfectly and quietly. We set the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes and checked the status on the Jackery Mobile App. It costed us about 11% of the capacity. Pro-tip: We actually wrote down this down on a sticky note and stuck it to the unit. Now we know exactly how many ‘pizza runs’ we have in a total blackout!

Our Jackery was so versatile. Instead of manually opening and closing the garage, we were able to get an extension cable to the door opener. The Jackery powered it and kept us safe because we don’t have manual locks on the garage door. Today, it’s not quite a big deal since our new garage door opener has a built-in battery backup. However, if that battery were to run out, it’s Jackery to the rescue!

After inhaling the delicious pizza leftovers, we sat around the living room with the Jackery nearby. We were able to plug in an LED lamp, a small fan, and an old laptop that had a Blu-ray DVD player.
